What's On in Sydney This Week: 8–14 June 2026
It's a big week to be in Sydney — the city's two flagship winter events are both running, and one of them is about to wrap. Here's what's on and how to get to it without the parking and surge-pricing headache.
Vivid Sydney — final week (ends 13 June)
This is your last chance for 2026. Vivid Sydney transforms the harbour into a canvas of light, music, and ideas, and it switches off on Saturday 13 June. Lights run nightly from 6pm to 11pm.
Don't-miss spots in the final days:
- The Light Walk — the free 6.5km route from Circular Quay through Barangaroo to Darling Harbour, with projections on the Opera House sails and heritage buildings along the way.
- Laser Lightfall at Cockle Bay — a free nightly laser spectacular over Darling Harbour, running every evening of the festival.
- The drone shows — choreographed aerial displays at Cockle Bay on selected nights (check the official program, as they don't run every night).
The harbour precincts get very busy in the festival's closing weekend, so plan your arrival and exit.
Sydney Film Festival (until 14 June)
The 73rd Sydney Film Festival runs through Sunday 14 June, with world premieres, international features, and documentaries screening across the city. The heritage State Theatre on Market Street is the flagship venue, with screenings also at cinemas in Newtown, Norton Street, the CBD, and the Art Gallery of NSW. Single tickets and multi-film flexipasses are available.
Pride Month
June is Pride Month, with events running across the city throughout June celebrating Sydney's LGBTQIA+ community and history.
A good week for a Blue Mountains escape
Crisp, clear winter days are some of the best of the year for the Blue Mountains — sharp views and far fewer crowds than summer. If the city's busy with Vivid crowds, a day in the mountains is the perfect contrast. See our Blue Mountains day trip guide.
Getting around during a busy week
Vivid's closing weekend means packed trains, gridlocked CBD streets, and surge pricing on rideshare around Circular Quay and Darling Harbour. Sydney Fixed Fare Taxi avoids all of it:
- A fixed price, locked in before you travel — no surge, no matter how busy the night.
- Dropped right at the precinct — no parking hunt near the harbour.
- Fares over A$80 may qualify for a complimentary luxury hire car upgrade — subject to availability.

Skip the parking and the surge. Your fare is locked in writing before you travel — no meter, no surprises, the same price day or night.
Fares over A$80 include a complimentary luxury hire-car upgrade, subject to availability on your travel day.
